The Orinoco Aromatic Bitters, originally produced by the Blemmerg Manufacturing Company in Boston during the late 1800s, were the bitters selected to feature throughout George Winter's book, 'How to Mix Drinks: The Barkeeper's Handbook'. In fact, it was a full-page advert in this aforementioned tome that inspired their creation and subsequent global launch in 2012 as a collaboration with The Dead Rabbit in New York. Named after one of the longest rivers in South America, which runs through Colombia and predominantly Venezuela, the Orinoco Aromatic Bitters hark back to a bygone era but also embrace modern cocktail culture, giving bartenders the opportunity to recreate former classics and construct their own.

This interpretation of the famed aromatic style of bitters was originally created for The Dead Rabbit in New York. On the nose, it presents a blend of cinnamon, cola, clove, cacao, and hints of coffee. The taste continues with spicy clove and warm, sweet baking spice flavours, followed by bitter orange and cardamom, all backed up by dried fruit throughout. The finish is a long, bittersweet note with hints of molasses.

The Orinoco Aromatic Bitters are compounded with a selection of botanicals, including Quassia bark, dried chamomile flowers, dried orange peel, green cardamom pods, Ceylon cinnamon, Cassia bark, Angostura bark, red sandalwood, and raisins. This unique blend of ingredients allows the bitters to evoke a sense of nostalgia while also providing bartenders with a versatile tool to explore and create contemporary cocktails.

The Orinoco Aromatic Bitters were initially conceived as a collaboration between the Blemmerg Manufacturing Company and The Dead Rabbit in New York, with the aim of capturing the essence of a bygone era while embracing the modern cocktail culture. The result is a product that bridges the gap between tradition and innovation, offering bartenders and enthusiasts alike a chance to explore the rich history and diverse flavours of the aromatic bitters category.
